Compassionate Communication Toward Ourselves and Others

The Dalai Lama said, “The essence of compassion is a desire to alleviate the suffering of others and to promote their well-being.” Self-compassion is the desire to alleviate our own suffering and promote our well-being. Integrating greater compassion toward ourselves and others begins with awareness. Paying attention when critical or judgmental thoughts arise is the first step. Kindness and understanding naturally follow. The hands-on activities in this workshop include several techniques and strategies to incorporate compassion into your life.

Unconditional Positive Regard

Unconditional positive regard, a concept developed by the psychologist Carl Rogers, focuses on providing acceptance and support for people. Imagine how you might feel if you provided that acceptance and support for yourself and those close to you. By reframing experiences of frustration and criticism and transforming them into experiences focusing on our strengths and the strengths of others, leads to greater self-contentment and success.

Intercultural Understanding

We interact with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds on a regular basis. Through the exploration of personal and group cultural identities, investigating similarities and differences, and considering the reasons behind certain cultural practices, participants gain greater insights and a deeper understanding for the richness of diversity in our lives. The language of tolerance and the celebration of diversity make this workshop a personally and professionally rewarding experience for all. Join this experiential workshop to promote inquiry, develop curiosity, experience cultural nuances, and find commonality among different groups.
